Coinbase has now opened up its NFT marketplace Coinbase NFT to the general public, just weeks after it launched its Beta version to a limited number of ‘allowlist’ users. The platform’s public launch has occurred earlier than expected, as the company initially anticipated that its democratization would take a few weeks or months.
At this time it is unclear why or how developments moved more quickly than expected, with a company spokesperson simply stating that the product is now ready for higher traffic volumes. The crypto exchange hopes that, with its existing user base of 89 million and a new influx of new users, it will be able to conduct more tests, enabling it to make more informed decisions when it comes to adding or enhancing features on the platform.
A statement from the company regarding the public launch stated: “Coinbase believes NFTs are here to stay, and the Coinbase marketplace is about much more than just buying and selling. Coinbase is focused on cultivating a community and is excited to be opening the beta up for more people to enjoy the experience they have created”.
According to circulating rumours, Coinbase will have approximately one month to refine the platform, as many have set the launch for June 2022. In addition to its announcement about the release of its BAYC-inspired ‘The Degen Trilogy‘ film series at ‘NFT. If Coinbase intends to make the NFT launch in New York City from June 21-23 a massive milestone, then perhaps that’s what they intend.
